News from Panama / Thursday, September 6th, 2012

You know that you are getting older when you can remember growing up and getting excited about flying on older DC 3 prop aircraft.  Well, I cannot wait to fly on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.  Here are some travel updates from Latin Business Traveler including LAN airlines taking delivery of this beautiful aircraft.

American Airlines will up its weekly Miami to Santiago de Chile service to 14 weekly, from 10 currently, beginning in mid-November.

LAN Airlines will introduce seasonal service to Castro on Chiloé Island, via a Santiago de Chile-Puerto Montt-Castro route, beginning Nov. 7.

AeroMexico plans to restart service between Mexico City and Dallas/Fort Worth on Nov. 5, via its AeroMexico Connect jets.

Beginning Nov. 1, Paris-based Corsair International will resume weekly Paris (Orly) to Cancun service.

American Airlines will increase its Miami to Nassau service to nine daily flights (from eight), beginning Nov. 15.

Other Airline News

Reminder: Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, LAN Airlines expects disruptions to its reservations, sales, ticket change and check-in services. Online check in and upgrade requests will be unavailable for much of those two days, although passengers will be able to check in online early. The airline recommends that passengers be at the airport at the check-in time indicated on their boarding pass: two hours before departure for domestic flights and four hours before departure for international flights. If online check in is not possible, passengers should bring with them to the airport a printout of their e-ticket with record locator number on it.

LAN Airlines took delivery of the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner for use by an airline in the Americas. The airline will take delivery of two more Dreamliners this year, and is introducing a new Premium Business Class on the plane, with 100% horizontal full flat seats with ottoman.

Airport News

The opening of Quito’s new airport, originally scheduled for next month, has been postponed to February 2013.

The Peruvian government plans to build a new airport in southeastern Peru to help handle traffic in the Cusco region, near Machu Picchu. Although Velasco Astete Airport serves the area, it does not have night flights and has no room to expand. Building the new $460 million airport is expected to take four to five years.
