The environmental impact study for the 4th electrical line is being prepared

The general manager of the Electric Transmission Company, S. A. (Etesa), Carlos Mosquera, said that progress is being made “consistently” in the construction of the fourth line, in order to increase the electricity transmission capacity. 

Mosquera said that the environmental impact study (EIA) is already being prepared on the fourth line and soon “we will have the technical report.”

The fourth line would be built from the west of the country, in the area of the province of Bocas del Toro, from a new substation called Chiriquí Grande to the new Panama III substation.

Regarding the interconnection between Panama and Colombia, the manager of Etesa said that progress is being made consistently with the satisfactory execution of stages. 

On the other hand, Mosquera indicated that to strengthen the interconnected electrical transmission system, at least 168 million dollars have been invested from 2019 to 2022. 

He added that these funds are for the development of various projects, which include the adaptation and replacement of equipment in several sub

and the installation of reactors in the substations of Changuinola and Guasquita. 

The Statcom compensation systems were also implemented in the Panama II and Llano Sánchez substations, which together exceeded 78 million dollars. 

Etesa is responsible for the care of more than 3,000 kilometers of lines and 4,500 high voltage towers, along with the operation of 17 substations and 22 communication
