Until February 2024, exports of Panamanian goods reached a total of US$170.3 million, highlighting a significant increase compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the latest report published by the Office of Trade Intelligence (INTELCOM) of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI), based on data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

This performance translates into an increase of more than 9%, compared to the same period in 2023, when exports totaled US$150.4 million. Of this figure, US$122.4 million comes from sectors such as agricultural, agro-industrial, industrial and fisheries, while US$47.9 million correspond to value-added exports from special regimes, thus marking the second highest value recorded since 2010.

The leadership in Panamanian exports continues to be diversified, with bananas occupying the first place representing 15.3% of the total exported, followed by frozen shrimp (10.2%), medicines such as antihistamines and antipyretics (7.9%), raw teak (7.3%), iron or steel waste (5.4%) and raw palm oil (3.8%).

According to the report, in terms of export destinations, the main ones were the Netherlands with US$18.8 million, Taiwan with US$15.5 million and the United States of America with US$15.1 million, which highlights the geographical diversification of Panamanian exports.
