Cubans in Panama reject US blockade on the island

News from Panama / Tuesday, October 6th, 2020

Cuban residents in Panama rejected the US ‘policy of economic suffocation’ against their motherland, during a national meeting held in the complex context the island and its community abroad are currently living.

During the final declaration of the virtual meeting, the Marti’s Association of Cuban Residents in Panama (AMCRP) stated that this hostility is ‘the main obstacle to the development of our country, while at the same time it violates the human rights of the Cuban people, including the residents abroad.’

The participants in the event condemned what they described as a ‘media onslaught’ against Cuba in certain media outlets and counterrevolutionary groups on social media, ‘especially the attempt to dismantle or discredit the symbols of the nation,’ included some of the main exponents of the Cuban culture.

The text, read by board member Humberto Perez, also recognized the efforts done by the Cuban government ‘fighting the Covid-19 pandemic,’ which allowed to control its spread and save thousands of human lives, an action that distinguishes the country internationally and is a source of national pride.

As a culmination of the virtual meeting, participants screened a video to Digna Tey Consuegra and her husband Luis Coteron, who thanked the gesture that resulted in a pleasant surprise. Consuegra concluded her diplomatic mission as Cuban Consul to Panama.
