Susie and I went to Las Lajas Beach Resort for the weekend and the weather was incredible! We go there often as it is only an hour and a half from Boquete on the new PanAm Highway.
This is one of the reasons for choosing Boquete as our home base. Live in the cool mountains with eternal spring weather and be at the beach in an hour and a half. While there are plenty of beaches to choose from, Las Lajas is or favorite. Swimmer friendly, miles of empty beachfront. We would not trade this equation for anything.
Las Lajas Beach Resort is very simple, comfortable and the best rate for a beach hotel in Panama. Situated directly on the beach, they offer a great pool, swim up bar, beach bar and restaurant. I had a Balboa Beer and grilled Tuna when we arrived and that set the pace for a great time. The menu is varied and offers many options. The gals and guys that work here are extremely service oriented and you will go home with a wide smile on your face! For a short time the rate was $70 per night but that will change shortly. Even in Season, the rates remain reasonable.
When we left, Susie said to me “look, the cooks are at the fishmongers truck”. They were buying the days fresh seafood so I grabbed by cooler and walked over to see what was fresh that day. We bought 2 pounds of prawns for $4 per pound and decided that the weekend was complete, so we headed home.
We will be back soon as this is a special place in a special province that we live in!!

Thanks for the write up on Las Lajas! We live on the beach and so enjoy waking up to that fabulous view, the warm gentle waves, and the golden sun. It’s nice to hear others enjoy it too. The resort is undoubtedly “headquarters” for the expat community. In the early days, there were few options available and it was a consistent source of great food and company. (We have lived there since around 2004.) Now there are several other fun establishments on the beach, and around Las Lajas Pueblo, that are worthy offerings. Try Johnny Fiesta’s on the beach for a laid back tropical brew, youthful international vibe, and sports viewing. Have breakfast at Nahual with the new crew from Argentina. Or head off the beach to Restaurant Refugio for the best entero in town. Brisas del Pacifico has terrific food, and many of your readers might remember the owner, Fernando, from his Argentinian Steak House on the way to Volcan. Margaritas is a new restaurant featuring tacos and pizza, and deliciously huge margaritas. Up in town we often treat ourselves to a dinner at Naturalmente, which is always a gourmet treat of fresh ingredients whipped up into a european delight. Or we go to their pizza spot in town, Naturalmente Pizza for a slice of thin crust heaven. Sunset Beach Lounge in town is excellent for panini and cocktails. Or try Ciao Ciao for home made Italian pastas, and scampi. Al Aljito’s ambitious menu features all around great food with a German twist. If you can, travel up into San Felix try Pizza & Pasta for one of the best pies you will find anywhere, not to mention the fresh pasta and lasagna. Little Las Lajas has really grown in the last decade, and has become an international neighborhood full of interesting people, food, and festivities! Come visit us! We love company!
