  1. The “Panama Amnesia” of this story resides in the author’s brain. Geopolitics is not a nice little game; it is often very rough. There are both honorable and dishonorable players. The author has trouble seeing the difference. The author’s analysis of American politics and motivation is deeply flawed but his explanations of Panama during the period in question is really disappointing. Nowhere in the author’s article critical of the US are the these words about Panama’s Torrijos or Norieiga : Corrupt, Dictator, Drug Dealing, Abusive or Incompetent. Yet those words adequately describe the regimes. When a world trade asset, the Canal, hangs in the balance only a fool would sit back and watch. America acted. Putin’s “invasion” into the Ukraine is to occupy and control it. America’s 1989 invasion of Panama was to remove a corrupt and dangerous dictator and then leave ….. which is what it did. And when the US left if really left….everything to the Panamanians. Think Putin will do that? Where would Panama be without the past involvement of the US? No independent country, No canal, No dominate source of income, No stability to brew the economic explosion going on now. To equate American actions with those of Putin is pretty thin logic to say the least.
