May bunker sales fall slightly at Panama

News from Panama / Tuesday, July 11th, 2017

Marine diesel oil (MDO) volumes were up on April, however a drop in heavy fuel oil (HFO) demand saw overall bunker sales tail off for the month.

According to statistics from the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), 365,530.76 barrels (48,999 metric tonnes (mt)) of MDO were sold in Panama in May compared to 310,040.11 (41,560 mt) in April.

However, HFO, which accounts for the vast majority of bunker sales in Panama, fell slightly. Some 2,605,423.46 barrels (410,303 mt) of the residual fuel were sold last month – 93,742 barrels (14,763 mt) fewer than in April.

In total, 2,970,954.22 barrels* of marine products were sold in Panama in May compared to 3,009,205.22 in April.

*Note that conversion rates differ between fuel grades. Bunkerspot has adopted a conversion rate of 7.46 for MDO and 6.35 for residual fuel oil.
