News from Panama / Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

The Infanta Elena, accompanied by the first lady of Panama, Yazmín de Cortizo, visited the socio-sporting school run by the Real Madrid Foundation in collaboration with the Fundación Amigos del Real Madrid and the First Lady’s Office in Panama. The project has been benefitting almost 500 children at risk of social exclusion since 2006, with the support of the Fundación Mapfre, where the Infanta is Project Director.
The project has been running since 2006 thanks to the support of Mapfre, alongside the Fundación Amigos del Real Madrid and the First Lady’s Office.

Aside from the school in Panama City, which provides support for 150 boys and girls, the Foundation runs a further two socio-sporting projects in the country, located in Chitré (Herrera province) and Tolé (Chiriquí province). They look after 300 young people at risk of exclusion, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to nearly 500. They are provided with safe recreation spaces and leisure time, moving them away from criminal gangs and the consumption of drugs and alcohol.

The Foundation runs two other socio-sporting projects in Panama: Chitré and Tolé.

The schools foster the students’ wholesome development by using sport as a tool to educate in values such as respect, teamwork, equality and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits. Beyond teaching values through sport, there are also a range of socio-educational activities, including nutrition workshops.
