Who Are You: Politician or Businessman?

I read this interesting article that is an Editorial from Central America Data dotcom.

In some countries in the region the gap between those who have to manage a business and those who seek to govern a country is widening, with appalling consequences for the economic and social development of those nations.

Opportunity in decision-making and risk management.
– An entrepreneur who does not make decisions threatens the existence of their company, and consequently their personal assets, and often the family economy and in turn their children’s future.
– A politician who does not make decisions jeopardizes the development of a country, and the only personal risk they take is not getting reelected.

Damage to what is being managed.
– A mismanaged company will without doubt disappear and with it the welfare of the entrepreneur and his family.
– A poorly run country will not go away (usually …). Most of its inhabitants will be plunged into poverty, and increasingly small portions of the population will accumulate more and more wealth, while government officials enjoy their pension and will be assured of a future for their children through relationships cultivated during their tenure.

Accountability.
– An entrepreneur knows they are the first and last person responsible for what happens to their company.
– Many governments in the region have lost the concept of political responsibility, and it is common to hear ministers and even presidents criticize their subordinates or hide behind ignorance of the issues in their area of ??responsibility. It is also increasingly common, to delegate all decision making to “commissions” (remember where the camel came from …?) ensuring the dilution of any culpability through collective anonymity.
