The latest update from the National Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has brought with it news about the progressive weakening of the El Niño phenomenon, as revealed by the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA). Significant changes are expected in the climate landscape.

The NOAA report and the IMHPA follow-up indicate a high probability, of 79%, that between the months of April and June 2024, the phenomenon of El Niño – Southern Oscillation (ENOS) will enter a neutral phase. This suggests a gradual alleviation of the effects associated with El Niño, which could have positive implications for various sectors, such as agriculture and fisheries.

The evolution of the El Niño phenomenon and the possible transition to La Niña pose challenges and opportunities for Panama and its inhabitants.
