  1. Gees, the author does a great job of pointing out the simple truth as it is in Costa Rica today.. What the author doesn’t get right is that a small country can turn on a dime and new polticos can quicly adopt new policies..

Costa Rica is a tiny version of the USA and politicos must move further to the left. If they don’t promise more to get or keep there jobs there gone. The odds that Costa Rica would be blessed with a business man bull in a China shop like President Martinelli is less than 0%.

My wife is a tica and we have a home an large family in Costa Rica. We leave the home mothballed and live in Panama ! We just visit an buy as much as we can in Panama to help the family get by.The cost of the mothballed home in Costa Rica is higher than our home in Panama. That’s sad, but, the wife won’t let me sell it.. You can take the tica out of Costa Rica, but, not Costa Rica out of the tica.

  2. Some of this sounds exactly the same as what has been happening in Panama for the last 6 years! The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer … Taxes, inflation and crime are all increasing by the day now, the cost of living is now almost the same as the states! Regardless of how beautiful Panama is, the benefits of why we came here are becoming less and less everyday. At least Costa Rica tries to take care of the local people, unlike Panama who tries to hide them and cast them away!

  3. Too bad that so many people don’t understand where the money comes from to pay for a good standard of living such as health care, policing, clean water, good roads, etc.

Of course the money comes from business taxes and taxes paid by employees of businesses. That’s the only sustainable source of tax revenues. Period.

But many people, usually left wingers, think it’s better to destroy business and chase business owners away.

Just look at what Chavez did to Venezuela, yet so many around the world still love left wing idiots like Chavez and his anti-business policies.
