SONDA Panama achieves “Neutral Carbon” certification

News from Panama / Friday, February 16th, 2024

The company SONDA in Panama that manages technology services in the public sector, banking, logistics and retail, such as the urban mass transport payment system of Metro de Panamá and MiBus, became an environmental sustainable company, when it received the “Neutral Carbon” certification.

This certification, delivered by the consulting firm Versa, comes after a process that began in 2021 to evaluate and reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by promoting more sustainable practices to contribute positively to the environment, a process that was carried out by the hand of Treegacy, which allowed the measurement, mitigation and compensation of its emissions to achieve this certification.

Some of the practices that SONDA Panama has been implementing to reduce its carbon footprint, are changes in its vehicle fleet, adjustments in programming for the use of air conditioning in central offices, awareness of the correct use of lighting and electricity, to compensate for the difference with internationally regulated carbon bonds.

In 2019, the company achieved a 53.51% reduction in its carbon emissions, while by 2022 it managed to compensate 100% of its emissions of scope 1 and 2, through the acquisition of carbon credits.

The recognition as ‘Neutral Carbon’ is part of the objectives set by the company this year to reduce its environmental footprint and improve its operation in accordance with the industry’s sustainability standards, and in this way, the company contributes to business innovation to build a more sustainable Panama.
