The Panamanian company Gaiafrut S.A., based in Puerto Armuelles, Chiriquí, has announced the export of four containers of bananas to the demanding US market, with the logistical support of the Directorate of Agribusiness of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA).

Rubén Caballero, owner of Gaiafrut S.A., reported that this significant shipment was directed directly to consumers in Miami and that they have plans to expand to the New York market in the near future. Each of the containers transported 960 boxes of this product, highlighting the quality and efficiency of local production.

Gaiafrut S.A. obtains its bananas from approximately 30 small and medium-sized producers, as well as from the Association of Producers Digno de Barú, which brings together more than 100 local producers. This collaboration strengthens the production chain and promotes economic development at both the business and community levels.

These exports not only boost the economy of Puerto Armuelles, but also generate direct employment for about 30 families and benefit about 100 more people in the region. The communities of Rodolfo Aguilar, Baco and Bugaba are recognized for their productivity and contribute significantly to the success of this company and the economic growth of the area.

The success of Gaiafrut S.A. in the international market highlights the potential of the agricultural sector in Panama as an engine of economic development. These exports not only generate foreign exchange and wealth, but also improve the quality of life of local entrepreneurs, producers and collaborators.

  1. What is the path of the containers from Puerto Armuelles to Miami? Are they trucked to Colón and loaded on a ship or are they trucked to Panamá and loaded on a ship?
