Project to Reactivate Banana Production

In Panama, $13 million were approved to sign lease agreements with landowners where Del Monte will reactivate banana production in Barú, Chiriquí.
With the disbursement approved by the Cabinet Council, part of the contracts to lease farms may be signed so that Banapiña, a subsidiary of Del Monte, can start the process reactivating banana production in Barú.

Prensa.com reports that “…So far, 1,638 owners have accepted the company’s lease proposal. The state aspires to have the rest of the farms on board before December.”

“… According to the contract between the State and the company, approved by Law 28 of May 25, 2017, in addition to the hectares leased to the group of ex-workers of Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples de Puerto Armuelles (Coosemupar) there will be a further 4,034 hectares”.
