Patient in Panama is grateful to his Cuban ‘guardian angels’

News from Panama / Monday, March 22nd, 2021

After 24 days, patient Luis Guillermo Matos returned to the Nicolas Solano Hospital, in the neighboring Panama Oeste province, to meet again with his ‘guardian angels’, the Cuban doctors who saved his life.

For 18 days, Matos was in a critical condition in an intensive care unit due to Covid-19, Diego, Yanelis, Daniris and Daniel were the Cuban doctors who ‘scolded, took care of and administrated me the medications,’ Matos, who is a Venezuelan communicator, said in a video posted on Instagram.

He recalled that although the biosecurity suits did not allow him to see them physically, he always felt their concern and dedication, ‘so I am proud that this group of great friends touched my hand, my body and took important steps so I could be alive again.’

Cuban intensive care doctor Diego Suarez, head of the medical brigade that is working at the Nicolas Solano Hospital, in La Chorrera, highlighted the patient’s gesture of acknowledging the work of the Cuban health personnel.

For now, Matos dreams about knowing Cuba and visiting Havana, Matanzas and Pinar del Rio, in addition to dancing, without forgetting that wearing a face mask protects us all and the sentence by the doctors, ‘You did it and we did it, you came back to life Luis, now, take care of yourself and remain vigilant.’
