The Government has launched an aggressive plan top promote investments in two areas of most interest to tourism: the former U.S. Base in Sherman, in the Caribbean and Amador, on the banks of the Canal on the Pacific side. The list of opportunities is quite extensive.
Authorities in Panama have set in motion an ambitious plan to attract investment in two areas of most interest to tourism: the old Sherman U.S. military base in the Caribbean and in Amador on the Pacific, in the capital. They also announced that tenders will soon be released.
Investment opportunities in Sherman “will come in the form of tenders to be released in the coming weeks,” the agency EFE said to the Executive Secretary at the Administrative Unit Reverted Properties (UABR), Juan CarlosOrillac, according to a publication on Prensa. com.
The Spanish consulting firm C4T has conducted the relevant studies, Orillac said.
“The exploitation of the beautiful beaches of Sherman offers the industry the chance to construct of six ecotourist hotels, yacht marinas, cultural centers, eight housing cores and recreation centers. Regarding Amador, Spanish consultants have already submitted a preliminary draft and in the coming weeks and will present their final report, in this case an update of the Tourism Development Plan prepared in 1996, said Orillac ” reported Prensa.com.

Tom, it pains me to see Panama follow in the footsteps of so many countries when it comes to their coast line. Build, build and build more!
I am 69 and grew up in Florida (Jacksonville) and always admired our coastline because only private home were allowed to be build close to the ocean. Condos and hotels were across the paved road and there were not too many. Today I live in the Panhandle of Florida (Fort Walton Beach) and even driving along Highway 98, you can’t see the beautiful emerald green water of the Gulf of Mexico due to all the hi-rises build on the beach. Then to add insult to injury, the owners or managers want to throw swimmers and sun bathers off the beach in front of their hi-rise. We have NO PRIVATE BEACHES IN FLORIDA! We have public access ways to the public beaches, but all beach front is public property. Please don’t let this happen to Panama. Insure that a max height of 2 story buildings are the limit. You and your children won’t regret it !! Thanks
While the government promotes investment on one hand they propose to take it away on another. Hundreds of ex pats have purchased property here in Panama as investments, to be used for short and long term rentals for other ex pats coming down to visit the country and make up their minds if they want to invest here. Now the minister of tourism, who is clearly a lackey of the hotel industry, is at it again. He tried first by edict to ban all short term housing in Panama accept hotels. That failed because it was clearly illegal. Now is he is apparently planning to go to the legislature to accomplish the same thing. The hotel industry has seriously overbuilt and will have drastic occupancy rates for the next several years. Meanwhile family wishing to come to Panama to visit will still be unable to afford the exorbitant rates being foisted on a unsuspecting and vulnerable tourist population. STOP THIS ILLEGAL TAKEN OF PERSONAL PROPERTY NOW!
