  1. When I am in the States, people often comment to me abut the dangers of Panama. I have to explain that Panama is a safe and vibrant democracy. I explain that the government has been pro-business and pro-growth. Never in Panama have I felt in danger and have found Panama a great place to be.

  2. I agree that the article is well written and the representations (for the most part) well stated. I would only offer the comment that over time (especially during the past three years) with both Candidate and later President Trump’s rhetoric the USA (especially Trump’s base) has moved further right into the twilight zone not just in its relations with neighboring Countries of the Americas (Canada and Latin America) but globally with the rest of the world especially strained relations with US Allies.
The USA population consists primarily (98%) of immigrants and decedents of immigrants with Native Americans comprising the balance. Because of the stated reasons mentioned (including starvation and lack of medical care/supplies not mentioned) there is a massive relocation, immigration and asylum seekers leaving their home countries but at this point let us sort truth from fiction and state that the millions of displaced peoples primarily exiting Venezuela, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and there are not relocating in large number to the USA but rather they are relocating in neighboring LATAM countries with Colombia absorbing approximately 1.2 million alone into their Country and into their homes with OPEN BORDERS and OPEN CARING HEARTS while allowing another 2.5 million to pass through their Country to other neighboring LATAM Countries. Approximately 3.5 million Venezuelans have left their Country in recent years for reasons well documented and they resettled in adjoining LATAM Countries with only a small (100,000) being granted asylum in the USA. There’s is NO CRISIS OR INVASION at the USA/MEXICO BORDER but rather the crisis is with the Presidency and his radical shirking group of supporters who have declared war on the world and especially their LATAM neighbors. I am old now and I have seen a lot in my lifetime having grown up in the USA at a time people had heart and shared their little with others in need. Yes, it was a time 80 years ago when immigrants were welcomed from all parts of the world (with few exceptions) and the Gas Lamp was lit and the Golden Door was open unlocked for all to enter. Look at the statements coming now from the USA and the voices of hate and division and be glad we live in Latin America where we are all one people with BIG HEARTS and compassion for those less fortunate whose only sin might being borne in a different country with different political and economic problems forcing them to immigrate. IN THE END LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND ASK YOURSELF “BUT BY THE GRACE OF GOD THEY COULD BE ME”. THESE IMMIGRANTS ARE JUST HUMAN BEINGS IN MANY CASES FLEEING THEIR HOME COUNTRIES WHERE THEY FACED SECURITY THREATS, STARVATION, JOBLESSNESS AND GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT ELSE !! BIRDS, ANIMALS (DOMESTIC AND WILD) CROSS OUT BORDERS WITHOUT INTERFERENCE YET HUMAN BEINGS ARE OF A LOWER ORDER ? Yes, restrictions and laws are necessary but shooting immigrants at the border and separating their children from parents is inhuman. I have four Panamanian Grandchildren and I worry about how they might be treated someday by the USA if they were under similar circumstances. Now the Statue of Liberty has been redefined by President Trump and the Gas Light turned off and the Golden Door closed and locked. Thank god our family lives in Panama a Country located in Latin America comprised of peoples with a heart !!
