In order to promote the country as a tourist destination, Panama will be participating in the International Tourism Fair 2024 (FITUR), which is considered the most important annual event for the international tourism sector specialized in the holiday leisure segment.

This event, which will be held from January 24 to 28, in Madrid, Spain, will become the epicenter of tourism innovation, where Panama will present its most recent experiences in sustainable tourism, accompanied by 24 local tourism providers.

“For our country, this fair represents opportunities to promote itself as a destination, generate attention from important international buyers and publicize the tourist offer and the competitive attributes it offers to this segment,” said Fernando Fondevila, CEO of the Tourism Promotion Fund (PROMTUR) of Panama.

He added that this year, the Panamanian delegation will have the participation of the award-winning tourism operators in the five categories of the Innovative Community Tourism Experiences contest, organized by the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in order to highlight together with local communities the innovative, sustainable and ready-to-offer tourism experiences to the international tourism market.

Among the presentations are the categories: Wonders of the Ocean, “Eco Ruta Tortuga” experience, from the province of Veraguas; Multicultural Panama, “Panama Sand & Folklore” experience, from Herrera Province; Birds in Paradise, “The Secrets of Playa Muerto” experience, from the Province of Darién.

Puente del Mundo, experience “Live the Caribbean and more: Pirates, Connections and Nature of the Caribbean of Panama”, from the Province of Columbus and Forests of Life, experience “Through the Isthmus: the Crystalline Northwest”, from the Province of Veraguas, will also be presented.

FITUR provides spaces for the exchange and promotion of the destination through conferences, seminars and other activities that allow both tourism professionals and attendees of the general public to update themselves on the latest trends and challenges in the tourism industry worldwide.

Participants include companies that provide the transport service, travel agencies, technology companies for the purposes of tourism, and in turn government representatives and tourist entities. It is estimated that this year’s participation will amount to 9,000 companies and more than 150,000 professionals from the international tourism industry representing from 145 countries.
