So far this year the government of Panama has called 48 tenders for the construction of 31,000 homes, worth $560 million.
Figures from the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData com show that the Panamanian government has called 48 tenders for the construction of 31,200 social housing units so far this year, which were published on the purchasing website Panamacompra.gob.pa between June 13 and November 23 2016.
The tenders for housing construction cover the whole territory, led by the province Ngäbe-Bugle, which is where the greatest number of housing units are concentrated, with 9,000, followed by Bocas del Toro, with 4500, Veraguas with 4,000, Chiriqui, with 3,500, Cocle with 2,200, Darien and Panama West with 2,000, Los Santos with 1,500, Herrera and Panama with 1000, and closing the list, Colon with 500.
To date, more than half of the contracts have been awarded to private companies and the remaining are waiting for the contests to be held.
