Panama holds negotiations to purchase more Covid-19 vaccines

News from Panama / Tuesday, March 30th, 2021

Health Minister Luis Francisco Sucre informed that the vaccine advisory team is holding talks on Thursday with several pharmaceutical companies to guarantee that the population is immunized against Covid-19.

Sucre stated that they met on Wednesday with the Russian company that developed the Sputnik V vaccine, and negotiations are underway with the laboratory that produces vaccines in China, without having signed any contracts in both cases so far.

This strategy aims to purchase more doses to make progress in the vaccination program that health authorities are carrying out nationwide, he said.

About this issue, Sucre informed that for the second quarter of 2021, Pfizer, a transnational corporation, must deliver more doses of its Covid-19 shots every week to comply with the commitment agreed upon with the national government.

On Wednesday, the seventh batch of the vaccine produced by the US pharmaceutical company arrived in the country, and 421,060 of 450,000 vial bottles have been delivered from January to March.

Since January 20, Panama has administered 320,079 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine through the Expanded Immunization Program, according to the Ministry of Health.
