The electricity company Enel, during its participation in the Renpower Central America and the Caribbean, explained that Panama has a great advantage for the decarbonization of the energy sector, being a carbon-neutral country, and that it is very well positioned towards a green and sustainable energy transition.
However, according to the statements of the country’s energy sector authorities, the axis of Panama is the decarbonization of the energy sector, democratization and decentralization, taking into account the objectives of energy policy and security.
For this reason, the Government is giving continuity to initiatives that incorporate the private sector within the processes of formulating the strategies and their implementation.
In addition to providing flexibility and incentives to promote the transition to a low-carbon economy, financial support is required to direct the country towards climate-resilient and low-emission development.
During the event, Enel also presented the study “Roadmap to Enhance the Role of Stakeholders in the Framework of the Energy Transition of Panama with a view to 2050”, which was developed together with Deloitte, which seeks to transcend and generate social awareness to decarbonize the economy, and in this way contribute concretely to the fight against climate change.
“For this, the study presents a valuable evaluation of scenarios on long-term sustainable policy, taking into account the characteristics of each geography and taking advantage of renewable energies, electrification and digitization of the network,” said Manuel Gómez, head of Market Analysis, Colombia and Central America.
