Panama-China FTA: Third Negotiating Round

The third round of negotiations between the two delegations concluded on October 13th, in which subjects such as Intellectual Property, Cooperation and Rules of Origin were discussed.

From the press release of the Ministry of Trade and Industries:

Panama City, October 13th, 2018. The negotiating teams from Panama and the People’ s Republic of China concluded today the Third Round of Negotiations for a Trade Agreement with advances in chapters such as Intellectual Property, Cooperation and Rules of Origin.

Néstor González, Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade, expressed his gratitude for the large number of business leaders, producers and professionals who attended the Cuarto Adjunto, specially designed to promote the participation and interaction of the private sector with the negotiating team. Gonzalez explained that each day, after concluding the conversations, the chief negotiator Alberto Alemán Arias made a complete presentation on what was discussed that day.

On the other hand, Alemán Arias reported the conclusion of the negotiations in relation to the Intellectual Property Chapter, initially proposed by Panama. This chapter ensures that the parties adequately and effectively protect intellectual property rights under the trade agreement.
