Yes, here we are enjoying a cup of coffee on our veranda and suddenly the quiet is interrupted by a whine of a high powered turbo engine as a Eurocopter flies and lands just below our villa. Later, I am on the way to the gym and notice a group of younger people who are looking the place over, taking photos and of course I am thinking, there goes the price of homes up another 10%! Well it turns out that a film crew may have visited and are planning a shoot here for an internationally televised reality series in a few months. I am thinking “Survivor” but of course living here in Valle Escondido is hardly roughing it, so unless they are planning on forcing couples to drink Martinis and scale valley walls it ain’t happening.
We have had Mel Gibson and other celebs here and I expect a lot of other people have come here as well. Heck, John Wayne loved Boquete and came here on numerous occasions so it is not anything new!!
For grins, I decided to see how fuel effecint it was for them to fly 6 people up here to scout the area and discovered it was not that bad. Of course if you can afford a mega million dollar copter (a used EC 130 2001 model is a bargain at $2,900,000) who cares what the fuel costs!!

Tom, I appeciate your posts and that you stick to topics specifically relevant to Panama and the expat community here. As a personal favor I wonder if you can recommend any liberal minded expats in Boquete who don’t share the view that public schools in America ought to be defunded, that the EPA should be abolished, that govt should have no role in the economy, that creation should be taught as science, that there is no scientific evidence for global warming, that Jews run the world etc etc. These are views I often heard expressed on the Boquete blog of the late lamented Sam T. and appeared to reflect a consensus of opinion among many in the expat community. Some of us don’t hold such views but it is a lonely vigil in these parts and I would very much enjoy knowing if there are other folks around who don’t think the US budget deficit is caused by illegal aliens receiving emergency room treatment in US hospitals and food stamps and medicaid but rather by unnecessary wars and unfair taxes. I and others here would be grateful for any leads you can offer. Thank you.
PS I am not interested in engaging in debate online and will not respond to any comments about my comment that appear in the blog. Such cat fights were a regular feature of Sam’s blog and did much to discredit the publication itself. I like Panama Perspective and wouldn’t want to see it degenerate in a similar fashion.
