Police in Colombia have seized more than three tonnes of cocaine with an estimated street value of 80 million euros.

Officials say the drugs were stashed in holes covered in wood in the middle of a jungle, close to the border with Panama.

They say the packets were more than likely about to be transported north to Mexico.

Police operations against the notorious Usuga drug gang have been expanded in recent weeks.

Panama has seized cocaine at a port in the northern province of Colon worth 70 million U.S. dollars on the black market, local authorities said Monday.

The cache included 600 packets of cocaine hidden inside a shipping container aboard a vessel that had arrived from Canada and was on its way to Belgium.

So far this year, authorities have seized about 1.3 tons of drugs at various ports around the country.
