  1. There really is no benefit to buying RE in Panama unless you must live here until you die. The prices are higher–especially for what you get in the way of quality of construction and fit and finish. In the absence of an exoneration, the property taxes are often as high or higher. There is no exoneration for land tax which often is enormous. Then the costs of security must be factored in since you cannot leave a home here unattended without a high risk of it being plundered. There are added expenses if you opt for a Corporation or Foundation. You may not have a choice since dissolving a pre-existing corporation will nullify any exoneration and your RE tax will explode upward. Then you have to deal with the juega vivo culture of deceit here. Add all these things up and it is evident that Panama RE is usually a bad mistake. Why else are there so many unsold homes in Boquete that have been on the market for years? And don’t even ask me about Montañas de Caldera. Prices and quality are better in the US.

  2. Very good report. Matches my land purchase experience almost exactly. The odd ball thing is the Bill of Sale. The contract actually becomes the recorded deed.
