AMERICAS: PANAMA BUNKER SALES CONTINUE BOUNCE BACK

News from Panama / Monday, November 23rd, 2020

Sales of marine fuel in Panama rose 10% last month, from 375,126 metric tonnes (mt) in September, to 412,622 mt in October.

Last month’s total was the fourth successive rise in monthly bunker sales at Panama, and the first time the bunker hub had registered a figure in excess of 400,000 mt since the 415,222 mt recorded in April.

However, October’s total was down 2.6% year-on-year (y-o-y) compared with the 423,542 mt of marine fuel sales during the same month in 2019, according to statistics published by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP).

Sales of very low sulphur fuel oil (314,731 mt) accounted for three-quarters of all marine fuel sales at Panama last month. The 56,200 mt of RMG 380 sold was a little down on the 57,068 mt supplied in September. Low sulphur marine gasoil sales (31,736 mt) rose 12.6% m-o-m, from 28,194 mt to 31,736 mt.

Elsewhere, sales of marine gasoil (9,955 mt) slipped below the 10,000 mt mark for a second successive month.

Some 566 vessels were bunkered at Panama last month – up 69 on the 497 fuelled in September, but down 131 on the 697 that took on marine fuel in October 2019.

A total of 3,967,447 mt of marine fuel have been sold at Panama during the first 10 months of 2020. In comparison, during the same period in 2019, some 4,387,275 mt was sold, which represents a y-o-y decrease of 9.6%.
