$160 million Investment in Solar Energy

AES El Salvador and Corporación Multi Inversiones have announced an investment plan that includes the construction of ten solar plants with capacity to generate 10 MW each in different areas around the country.

The solar power generation project will be operated by AES El Salvador, and is expected to be developed in three phases, according to the two companies involved in the initiative.

Elmundo.sv said that in the first phase, “... $47 million will be invested and includes the construction of three solar plants located in the municipality of Pasaquina, La Unión and El Carmen, in the La Union department. These units will start operations in March, May and July 2018, respectively. AES El Salvador detailed that the first phase of the project will have a capacity of 10 MW per plant.  The second stage will be developed in the western zone with a generation of 40 mw, while the third stage will be in the central area with 30 MW. “

For Juan Carlos Méndez, president of CMI Energía, “... ‘the Bosporo project is the first major investment in energy in El Salvador. A modality of small scale plants distributed in different locations around the country that will allow promotion of the dynamism towards new world tendencies in the energy sector’.”
