The Supreme Court of Justice of Panama endorsed this Friday as constitutional, with eight votes in favor, the candidacy of candidate José Raúl Mulino.
Mulino was elected a candidate to replace former president, Ricardo Martinelli, when he was disqualified for a sentence against him of more than 10 years in prison for money laundering. He was designated as his replacement in his candidacy by the Realizing Goals and Alliance parties.
“The Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ), by majority, declares that the Second Resolution Point of the Plenum Agreement 11-1 of March 4, 2024, issued by the Electoral Tribunal is not unconstitutional,” the Court published in X.
From this decision, it is expected that this Sunday voters in Panama will decide who will be the next president of the country, among eight candidates. The winner will govern from July 1 to June 30, 2029.
More than 3 million voters will go to the polls from 7:00 a.m. (local time), in a contest that in statements to CNN magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of Panama described as a typical due to the various situations that occurred during the process.
