Tropical Storm Bonnie became the second named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season on Friday, amping up to nearly 50 miles per hour before making landfall in southeastern Nicaragua late in the day.
Bonnie further strengthened before making landfall this weekend near the Nicaragua-Costa Rica border, where tropical storm warnings were in effect, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm, which was traveling at 16 m.p.h., was expected to move through the area into Saturday.
