By 2025, Panama is shaping up with moderate economic growth, with estimates ranging between 3% and 5%, according to various international organizations, this performance represents a significant rebound compared to 2024, a year in which a growth close to 2% is expected, marked by a slowdown in several sectors.

Economist Raúl Moreira points out that the Panamanian economy could reach a growth of close to 4% this year, driven by the reactivation of infrastructure projects led by the national government, among the outstanding initiatives are the rehabilitation of infrastructure works and projects such as the base of the tunnel.

For his part, economist Roger Durán emphasizes the need to further diversify the economy and promote key sectors such as logistics, tourism, agribusiness and industry, and according to Durán, activating domestic consumption and improving employability will be essential to achieve higher levels of growth.

On the other hand, Moreira stressed that a distinctive element of the Panamanian economy is its high level of diversification, where no sector generates more than 20% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), this balance allows the country to maintain economic stability even when certain sectors face challenges.

“In contrast to economies dependent on specific resources such as oil or copper, the structure of Panama allows better absorption of external shocks,” Moreira said.
