The BCIE disburses US$13.6 million for the Sanitation program in Arraiján and La Chorrera

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) has made a first disbursement of US$13.6 million for the Sanitation Program of the Districts of Arraiján and La Chorrera in Panama.

This project will benefit more than 250,000 people from 66,000 homes, significantly reducing the discharge of untreated wastewater into local rivers and ravines.

The program includes a series of improvements such as the installation of a network of pipes, pumping stations and a modern wastewater treatment plant, these infrastructures will allow the effective collection and treatment of wastewater, ensuring that it is not poured into the bodies of water without proper treatment.

This advance is to protect public health, prevent diseases and substantially improve the quality of life of communities by reducing exposure to contaminated water, in addition, wastewater treatment will play a fundamental role in environmental protection by preventing the contamination of water bodies and conserving aquatic ecosystems.
