During its first year of operations, Terminal 2 of Tocumen International Airport has been used by about 9 million passengers, said the general manager of the air terminal Raffaul Arap.
“Since the opening of T2 we have responded to the needs of our passengers and airlines, consolidating an operational balance between Terminals 1 and 2, facilitating expeditious, safe, efficient and comfortable processes for departure or arrival users, as well as travelers in transit,” Arab said.
Currently the Terminal concentrates 48% of the total operations of the airport, through COPA Airlines, Air France and KLM, in addition to other airlines that carry out partial boarding and disembarkation operations and the facilities of the domestic terminal with direct flights to the city of David, Chiriquí province.
Arab also highlighted the commercial activity in Terminal 2 where 38 duty-free stores have been activated, which has generated more than 1,600 new direct jobs in the private sector, he explained.
On the other hand, Arab announced that in the coming weeks and months the offer of hospitality services will be expanded with spaces for rest, a new executive room, bookstores, pharmacies, new stores, a multi-religious prayer room and a playground.
Terminal 2, whose investment was US$917 million, began operations on June 22, 2022 and has extensive and modern facilities, 20 boarding bridges, comfortable migration and customs areas, baggage scanners, a baggage handling system with the capacity to manage up to 12,000 suitcases per hour, electric backup systems, fuel storage and clearance, more than a thousand parking lots and a Metro station, among other facilities.
