Sowing Seeds of Love in Panama

News from Panama / Friday, December 2nd, 2011

I can remember one of my first trips to Cambutal in Azuero when I was going down this dirt road to the end of a trail just to see how far and lost I could get myself exploring the outback of Panama.  There on the side of the road perched on the steps of a wooden shack was a blue eyed blond in plain clothes and a huge smile.  I had to ask, ‘what are you doing here?”  “Peace-corp” was the answer and since then I have encountered numerous other situations like this throughout Panama.  It never ceases to amaze me the dedication of people to help others.  Here is a story of one such individual who I know who works here in Boquete and has a well thought out business plan for a non-profit organization.  I encourage you to join and follow her blog to keep in touch as she grows this wonderful organization.  If you feel compelled to donate to help her help others there is a donate button on her site.

Sowing Seeds of Love is a 501c3 tax exempt non-profit organization.

If you would like to receive a receipt for your contribution please contact Lindey at Sowingseedsoflove4love@gmail.com

Lindsey Parry gave up a well paying job back in the US, sold all of her worldly possessions and set out to Central America to find her calling.  She has ended up here in Boquete and we are lucky to have her here.  She is one on a number of individuals dedicated to helping the community and I hope that you enjoy her story.

3. Personal BIO:

“I always knew I wanted to help – to help the world, to help His people – but I never knew in what capacity.”

– Lindsey Parry , Founder Raised in a Christian home, Lindsey Parry always had a passion for Christ and His work. Even from an early age she volunteered her time, love, and Godly gifts for the greater good of those around her.

Graduating from the University of Central Florida in 2008, Lindsey worked for a major publishing company headquartered in Downtown Orlando. During her tenure, she had the opportunity to socialize with important people and attend black-tie events. She loved her life – but felt like something was missing.

Determined to give more of her time to the local community, Lindsey started volunteering with Rock For Hunger, a local non-profit aimed at providing music and food to the homeless. What started as a way to meet new people and share her gifts with others, turned into something powerful. Throughout the year and as she became more involved, Lindsey felt a calling for something greater, something more for her life…but at the time, she wasn’t sure what was in store for her future.

After much thought, prayer and guidance, Lindsey resigned from her job and sold most of her (worldly) possessions. She moved to Guatemala in December 2010 and worked as a third grade teacher to the indigenous children of Santa Maria de Jesus. During her time in Guatemala, God started to work in Lindsey’s life. Lindsey’s dream started to become a reality and Guatemala proved to a large piece to her ever-evolving puzzle.

1 Peter 4:10 – Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.

Created on the premise that there is “no love like God’s love”, Lindsey Parry founded Sowing Seeds of Love as a way to share God’s love with others. SSOL is a non-profit movement dedicated to encouraging individual empowerment by providing supplemental education, team sports and creative activities to children.

2 Corinthians 9: 6-9: Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”
