The first of five Smashburger restaurants planned for Panama opened in Plaza New York in Panama City on Sept. 4.

The new location features a new, locally-inspired burger: The Panama Burger features smoked Applewood bacon, grilled Panamanian white cheese, a fried egg, ketchup, haystack onion rings, and sautéed onions on egg bread. Other local menu options include fried Portobello mushrooms, chips with guacamole, and plantanitos fritos (fried plantain chips) with chipotle dressing.

Inversiones Platinum Brands S.A., is the franchisee of the new location. The multiunit operator also operates several Wing Zone restaurants.

“We’re very happy and excited about Smashburger and its menu. We have received amazing responses from our customers and are extremely motivated to make Smashburger the best place for better burgers in Panama,” Diqueos Tagaropulos, president, said in a company press release.
