Most of the participants of the Forty-fourth Meeting of the CCP.1 Permanent Consultative Committee held in Panama, agree that the role of the satellite industry is the key to closing the digital divide and connecting more than 2.6 billion unconnected people in the world.
Within the framework of discussion and analysis, the participants believe that in recent years satellite development has experienced development and innovation, increasing its potential throughout the telecommunications industry.
The national director of telecommunications of the National Authority of Public Services (ASEP), Hildeman Rangel, highlighted the satellite industry as relevant, so as a regulatory body, it is up to them to promote its growth with regulations that go in that direction.
“In the particular case of our country, we have experienced a remarkable growth in the short term, thanks to the determination and regulatory vision of the ASEP, through the use of the radio spectrum,” said Rangel.
According to the official, the legal and technical bases have been established to implement new provisions regarding the use of the radio spectrum for satellite telecommunications services, which include the economic consideration for its use, with the aim of promoting the arrival of new actors, to accelerate the closure of the digital divide, at a lower cost in distant rural areas that still need to be served.
According to Rangel, these actions have managed to turn Panama into a pioneering country by executing these steps that go hand in hand with technological advances, always providing new opportunities, non-existent in the past and that are possible today, as is the case of the new satellite industry.
