Four consortiums made up of companies from China, Spain, Italy and South Korea have presented their proposals to design and build a fourth bridge over the Panama Canal.
The timeframe for building the work has been estimated at 42 months, and the estimated investment is over $1 billion. This project aims to connect the areas of Arraiján and La Chorrera, to the west, with Panama City, near the Canal Pacific sector.

The consortiums that submitted offers are:

– Consorcio Panamá Cuarto Puente, made up of China Communications Construction Company LTD and China Harbor Engineering Company LTD.

– Dragados Sucursal Panamá, S.A., from Spain.

– Consorcio Astaldi – DAELIM, made up of the Italian Astaldi S.P.A. and the Korean DAELIM Industrial Co., LTD.

– Consorcio Cuarto Puente CSCEC – CREC Consortium, made up of China State Construction Engineering Corporation LTD. and China Railway Group Limited.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Works:

The Minister of Public Works, Ramón Arosemena Crespo, said that this project seeks better connectivity from Panama to the West side, which in addition to incorporating Line 3 of the Metro, includes construction of two interchanges: in Albrook opposite the Marco A Gelabert airport and a western connection with the Panamericana highway and Veracruz.

“The aim of this megaproject is to achieve greater traffic efficiency, in conjunction with the eight-lane extension of the Puente de las Américas to Arraiján,” said Minister Arosemena.
