Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino had the honor of opening the trading session at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Monday, September 22, 2025. This ceremony marks the start of daily operations in the world’s largest financial market.
President Mulino arrived at Wall Street as a special guest, accompanied by First Lady Maricel Cohen. He was welcomed by NYSE officials, including President Lynn Martin, Chief of Corporate Relations Will Goodwin, and South America Capital Markets representative Nicolás Arino. Before ringing the opening bell, Mulino held a private meeting with stock exchange executives, presenting Panama as an attractive investment destination, highlighting the strategic Panama Canal plan and several infrastructure projects promoted by his administration.
After signing the distinguished visitors’ book, Mulino toured the trading floor, engaging with key market representatives. This visit is part of his broader agenda in New York, which includes attending the United Nations General Assembly. Mulino traveled to the United States with a delegation, marking his 15th international trip since assuming office in July 2024.
The president emphasized Panama’s investment-friendly environment, citing the country’s robust legal framework, ongoing infrastructure initiatives, and the strategic expansion of the Panama Canal as key factors for investors. His appearance at the NYSE is part of a coordinated effort to strengthen Panama’s profile in global financial markets and attract both public and private investments.
