President Cortizo Cohen delivers public markets in Western Panama

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, continued his domestic patrol, this time in the province of West Panama. On this tour, two important public markets were delivered, totaling an investment of more than 28.2 million balboas and for the benefit of more than 700,000 people.

President Cortizo Cohen recalled that the construction work of both markets began in 2012, “but the work was paralyzed due to financial and legal difficulties until our government achieved its recovery,” he stressed.

He added that it was thanks to an inter-institutional effort, in coordination with the insurance company and the construction company “today we are inaugurating this project that the population of the province of West Panama waited for many years.”

The head of the executive explained that these new markets will modernize the current system of distribution and sale of agricultural products, giving the population of West Panama direct access to these foods for the well-being of their families.

The Merca La Chorrera Abastos, with a cost of 17.3 million balboas, will develop the activities of retailers, wholesalers, producers marketing fruits, vegetables, vegetables, seasonal products, meats and fish.

There is also a restaurant area, craft stalls and commercial premises that will be in line with the commercial activity that is exercised in the market. This project will enhance the agricultural production market, the functionality of the wholesale business sector, complementing with a small retail supply responding to demand.

On the other hand, the Merca La Chorrera Público was also delivered, with an investment of about 10.9 million balboas, where retail activities of meat, fishmongers, dry food, fruits, vegetables, vegetables and grains will be developed. It will have two restaurants and two commercial premises on the outside, among other facilities.

This project will enhance the agricultural production market, the functionality of the retail business sector, responding to the demand of the environment and generating sustainable economic growth.

Both markets are first-class and are part of the network of national markets, giving national producers and consumers in the province of West Panama the appropriate infrastructures for the marketing of products that come from the Post-Harvest Management Centers and the productive regions of the country.

The new markets have prioritized optimal health and safety conditions with the latest technology available.

They accompanied President Cortizo Cohen, Augusto Valderrama, Minister of Agricultural Development; Sindy Smith, governor of the province of West Panama; ministers of state, local authorities, market tenants and visitors.
