Ten companies have already expressed interest in the free zone that Tocumen is set to develop in the airport’s cargo terminal, whose tender is scheduled for the end of November this year. The logistics zone will cover a total area of 35 hectares, but the first stage, which will begin in the first quarter of 2018 with earthworks, will include the development of 18 hectares.

Prensa.com reports that “…The ten interested companies are dedicated to transporting perishable products, pharmaceuticals, and light cargo that needs to be processed before being sent to its final destination.”

Carmen Pages, Vice President of Strategy and Planning at Tocumen S.A. commented that “… companies that set up in the logistics area will pay a lease fee and an administration fee. ‘This is a unique project in the region, since currently there is no logistics zone within an air terminal that operates under a free zone regime,’ Pages said.”

“… Among the value added to the products that will be handled at the Tocumen free trade zone are labeling in the language of the target market of the item. In addition, the project will allow products to be handled that need maintaining in a cold chain so as not to affect their content.”
