Panamanian customs will apply new tariff import mechanism from 2025

News from Panama / Friday, December 13th, 2024

The National Customs Authority (ANA) announced that, as of January 1, 2025, the import tax-free tariff contingent will be available through the “First Come, First Served” system. This mechanism will apply to products covered by the Panama-US Trade Promotion Treaty (TPC). USA and the Association Agreement between Central America and the EU (ADA).

A statement from the institution said that the benefit will only be valid for goods in ports, airports and borders, such as pork, onion, tomato and fresh potatoes. Interested parties must submit the required documentation through the Integrated Customs Management System (SIGA) during administrative hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).

The application will be evaluated and, if it meets the requirements, a permit will be issued with a validity of three working days to complete the customs declaration and pay the corresponding taxes. If not used within that period, the permit will expire and the amount will be reallocated.

Among the necessary documents are the commercial invoice, certificate of origin, health permits and other specific requirements such as the FSIS 9060-5 form for the export of meat and poultry.
