The bill will establish an incentive regime to encourage the construction and expansion of wind farms.
The incentive regime aims to diversify Panama’s energy sources and provide electricity from renewable and non-conventional sources.

Decisions will be made using criteria for evaluating economic efficiency, technical and financial feasibility, service quality and reliability, and all within a framework of rational and efficient use of the country’s diverse energy resources.

The bill will also establish a legal framework to encourage the development of wind farms. Wind energy projects are hoped to help alleviate water shortages and over-dependence on thermal energy during the dry season, commented the National Energy Secretary, Juan Urriola.
