Panama will become an agricultural hub for Latin America

The construction of the Horticultural Excellence Center for Agricultural Innovation Panama-Israel will turn the country into an agricultural hub for Latin America.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama, during his tour of the experimental station of El Ejido, in Los Santos, headquarters of this project.

In his visit, Valderrama commented that this center of excellence will serve so that climate change, among other specialized agricultural issues.

Arnulfo Gutiérrez, who leads the advances of programs by scientific staff of the Institute of Agricultural Innovation of Panama (Idiap), said that the creation of the Horticultural Excellence Center for Agricultural Innovation Panama-Israel, through an agreement that will be signed soon, will place “Panama as a technological hub for the agricultural sector.”

The Minister of Mida stressed that the advances within Idiap “demummonstrate that Panama is working to be at the forefront in different aspects of the agricultural sector, benefiting the entire country.”

Bovine genetics, cashew cultivation, rational management of insect-invaders, protected horticulture, agroclimatic network and the installation of food and milk quality laboratories were some of the projects that announced their advances, during the visit of the authorities of the agricultural sector, private company and producers, to El Ejido.

The authorities also visited the project of protected crops in warm tropical conditions, aimed at associations of small producers, who will be trained to develop environmentally friendly infrastructures that do not cause the greenhouse effect, with which they will be able to have better production.
