Panama Tourist Arrivals Up 7%

Between January and September 5.5 million passengers came into the country which is 7% more than in the same period in 2015, and spending went up by almost 6% in the same period.

In the first nine months of the year 5,585,000 tourists arrived in the country, spending $3.4 million during their stay, 5.6% more than the spending by tourists who arrived between January and September 2015.

Figures from the General Comptroller indicate that of the number of passengers who entered, 1.5 million were classified as tourists, 148,000 as sightseers and 32000 as cruise passengers. The rest were those in direct transit and crew members.

In regards to spending by passengers during the first nine months of the year, July was highlighted as the month during which the largest amount, $435,000, came in, followed by March, a month in which $417,000 was spent.
