So, our only supplier had problems with a fire in their factory that make egg cartons and we find ourselves in need of importing them.  I stopped buying eggs in the grocery store years ago and instead buy huevos de patio or back yard chicken eggs at the vegetable market as they are much better tasting and healthier for you.  They come in small plastic bags which is fine with me as y favorite market is 5 minutes from my home.

With this duty free import a solution is underway to the problem of local shortages caused by a fire in the only factory producing such packaging in the country. Panamaamerica.com.pa reports that “…   Moldeados Panameños, S.A. estimated they will be able to restore operations in about 10 months. “

“…The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Manuel Grimaldo explained that authorization for the import was given based on three fundamental reasons: insufficient inventory, product quality and competitive price. ‘For now authorization has only been given to bring in one shipment, when inventory runs out another request can be made’. “
