Panama Purchases More Auto Parts from Mexico

As of September 2019, imports of vehicle parts into the Panamanian market totaled approximately $184 million, and purchases from Mexican companies increased 17% over the same period in 2018.
Variation of Imports
According to CentralAmericaData‘s estimates, between January and September 2018 and the same period in 2019 the value of imported vehicle parts and replacements in Panama registered a 10% increase, from $167 million to $184 million.

The increase reported for the months in question in 2019, reinforces the increase in purchases recorded in the same period in 2017, when the year-on-year variation was 3%.

Origin of Imports
In the first nine months of 2019, 22% of the value imported by companies in Panama came from the United States, 16% from Panama’s Free Zone, 11% from China, 10% from Belgium and 8% from Mexico.

The U.S. is the country of origin of Panamanian imports that has decreased the most for the period in question over the last eight years, since in 2012 it represented 34% of the total value purchased, and in 2019 it fell to 22%.
