Panama participated in the First Meeting of the Regional Program of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for Latin America and the Caribbean on Development Cooperation,” held in Madrid, Spain, with the aim of advancing the dialogue on the priorities of development cooperation between both parties and promoting innovative partnership measures, in order to jointly address the main development challenges.
It was the corresponding of the director of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fitzgerald, to represent the country in this meeting organized by the Development Assistance Committee (CAD) of the OECD, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, European Union and Cooperation of Spain (MAEC) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), brought together senior officials from the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (ALC) and members of the CAD, as well as representatives of multilateral organizations and regional development banks.
The meeting, which focused on aligning priorities and defining joint actions towards sustainable development, met on the financing of sustainable development, transition of LCA providers in a changing global environment, and new development cooperation strategies with an emphasis on social inclusion. These meetings made it possible to share knowledge and best practices to effectively address emerging challenges and highlighted the importance of dialogue and continuous, more effective, inclusive and sustainable cooperation, aligned with the principles of global solidarity and multilateralism.
This First Meeting of the Regional Program of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for Latin America and the Caribbean, chaired by the president of the OECD Development Assistance Committee, Carsten Staur, concluded with the presentation of the Human Development Report 2023-24, by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
