The Master Plan includes 90 stations to provide transport service for Panama City and its metropolitan area: San Miguelito, Arraiján and La Chorrera.
The director of the Panama Metro, Roberto Roy presented the master plan for the Metro which proposes a network of eight lines planned for 2040, which includes line 1 which is in operation and line 2, which is under construction.
Prensa.com reported that “… the fourth line will run from Pedregal to Punta Pacifica, crossing the avenue Jose Agustin Arango, via España, to finally connect with via Brazil and via Israel. Line 5 will depart from the Carmelite church, pass through the banking area, 50th Street, reaching Omar park, Lefevre Park, Park and culminating in Costa del Este. The last three lines contemplated in the master network will be trams or light rail trains. Line 6 will connect Albrook with Ciudad del Saber, Miraflores and Ciudad de la Salud a hospital complex under construction which will need public transport. Line 7 will be a tourism tram going from 5 de Mayo to the Old Town and line 8 willl connect Villa Zaíta and Las Cumbres with Don Bosco, in addition to line 1 to line 2. This will be the last line in the plan and its implementation will be linked to the future development of the area. ”
Roy predicted that the execution order and numbering of the lines will depend on the progress of projects in future administrations. When all eight lines are operating, transport capacity will be 260 thousand passengers every two hours, the same amount that is currently transported in one day today with one line.
