Panama may require bearer shares be held by a custodian

News from Panama / Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

While we will probably not see bearer shares eliminated in Panama, the ministry of Economy and Finance is studying the idea of “immobilizing” them by requiring that they be held by an “authorized custodian”.  The issue of bearer shares is an outstanding matter on which the country must take action before the review of fiscal transparency to be submitted in September.  All of this is being done in order to comply with OECD requirements for Panama.
