The National Customs Authority reported that in the first eight months of 2012 counterfeit goods worth more than $55 million were detected and seized.

The amount of decommissioned goods was $41 million more than in 2011 and triple that seized in 2010. 95% of the seized merchandise comes from China.

Venezuela and Bolivia are the main destinations for counterfeit merchandise.

“The transfer routes begin in Asia, the articles go through Panama and then are moved to Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile, depending on the distribution line of the criminal network.

In the opposite direction, we have detected an increase in the entry of counterfeit goods from Peru.

Last August 4000 Panamanian football shirts were seized which had been manufactured in the southern nation”, noted an article in Prensa.com.
