Panama- Governor distances,herself from investigation

The newly appointed  governor of Panama, Carla García is trying to distance  herself from a Public Ministry investigation following a report of a legislative subcommittee that reported  physical, sexual and psychological abuse in shelters under the responsibility of the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and Family (Senniaf) while she was deputy director.

She  absolved herself from responsibility in the case  in a statement issued  Saturday arguing that she worked in the “social area” as Deputy

Director a position she held for a year and a half.

Complaints were filed  the cases of abuse and mistreatment reported in shelters for minors and at the corresponding administrative measures were taken, such as the closure of eight shelters throughout the country.
